ABS-CBN’s XXX Exposes Road Anomaly

Posted on | July 27, 2010 | 2 Comments

I was about to hit the sack last midnight when I heard from the TV about an expose regarding questionable asphalt overlaying quality in Dasmariñas, Cavite. The mere mention of the word Dasmariñas was enough to get me out of slumberdom and got glued in front of the TV in no time – without coffee, just the words Dasmariñas, bad road and corruption acting like strong caffeine fix.

The ABS-CBN’s show XXX showed a segment regarding a Dasmariñas resident who narrated to Anthony Taberna (one of the show’s hosts) about his long time observation of how this part of the Aguinaldo highway has been always dug and layered with asphalt so frequently in the past years. At first I can’t exactly figure out which part of the long stretch of the highway the videos were shot from but the overpass in the background revealed that mystery man (named Greg) is exactly talking about the same thing as what I’ve been observing for years already. Ask any other concerned Dasmariños and definitely they’ll agree as well.

XXX investigation was impressive. They have gathered interesting (and irritating) facts like one that shows an amount of around P9 million spent just to rehabilitate a 450-meter segment of the road. It doesn’t take much for one to conclude that this is ridiculously over-priced especially if one has observed how these road projects have been executed. For years, I have witnessed how this part of the Aguinaldo highway have been layered again and again and again…and again just to be damaged by a day of rain or so. Yes, that’s how bad these roads are and that’s how public funds have been misused by these shameless and calloused people from the engineering district office. People like a certain Engineer Villanueva who was obviously trying to find his words when interviewed by Ka Tonying about how such lousy workmanship and substandard materials pass his supposedly expert scrutiny being an approver of road rehab projects. Wow. I wonder how such people sleep soundly at night. (I pity the others in the same office who work with all honesty.)

After watching the show, I told my wife last night that if XXX wants to have their hands full and be assured of 1 season full of exposes, they must hang around Dasmariñas for a while. Of course, I was just joking, but then again I may be right.

Another unaddressed problem until now is from a part of Cavite, not in Dasmariñas, but in the nearby Imus. Even after my first shot of it was featured on ABS-CBN’s post-election BMPM, the problem remains unresolved. Maybe because not one from the engineering office have seen it, which I highly doubt; or maybe because they’re still waiting for one big accident to happen before moving their fat ass and start doing some necessary corrective actions and be recognized on TV for being good public servants. Unbelievable, but I still think such mentality does exist.

Now, in my conscious effort to be part of the solution rather than the problem, I made a follow up shot of Daang Hari to show people how perilous this place is especially at night. This video shows both daytime and nighttime shot. You’ll be really surprised how drivers, like me, safely make it back to their families at night. I attribute it to safe driving and a lot of luck. But as they say, luck runs out…

This video has been edited roughly for BMPM so you’ll hear me talking while driving to describe what is being shown. And by the way, the music you hear in the background (nighttime shot) is my most hated music. Made me more pissed that night. Hahaha.

Mood: 3/10 Honks! (Yes, tonight I will do my mid-terms review. Tonight, really.)

This is actually not surprising. And THAT is just SAD. That’s how corrupt the our government has become. I just hope that PNoy is able to handle all these corruptions going all around him. By declaring war against corruption, he probably has declared war against the entire government. Well, I am exaggerating of course but very few will disagree with me on my last statement. God bless PNoy and may he be true to his word and be successful in his quest against these culprits.

    aangron,

I agree with you when you say that PNoy has to wage war against the entire government. The corruption is so deep down the whole system that everyone who’s behind it has undoubtedly been participating in the hocus pocus whether they’re (or we’re) conscious about it or not. That is why, it takes a concerted effort of each Filipino citizen to be able to “chip” off bit by bit day by day anything negative that has been there for a long long time. In my opinion, what PNoy promised during the SONA won’t be achieved 100% but what’s more important is that he leads by example and inspires people to partake in the challenges each one of us is facing right now. Believing in him is one thing. Helping him achieve what he promised is another – that is why we really shoud start doing our part now.

Thanks for your comment, by the way.

    Cris
