You become a father when…
Posted on | June 19, 2010 | 2 Comments

…you start caring for a small bundle of joy,
…you gladly forego your own sleeping time in order to watch the new occupant of your bed slowly settle to dreamland,
…you hate leaving home because there’s now another hand waving you goodbye,
…you visit playgrounds with a slight yank from fragile yet convincing hands,
…you realize how hard it was then for your own father to raise you,
…you stop being the king of the remote control and that the winner is one who doesn’t even have to speak…and that it’s not even your wife,
…you shamelessly sing a nursery hymn in short notice…anytime, anywhere,
…you watch what you’re saying because a pair of tiny ears listens,
…you watch what you’re doing because little eyes are intently watching,
…you enthusiastically mount a basketball hoop in your yard…and you don’t even play the game,
…Barney, Mickey and Baby Einstein just pushed your Braveheart, Top Gun, and Saving Private Ryan DVDs deeper into the CD shelf,
…your Last Song Syndrome isn’t the latest rock music but the Alphabet song,
….you stopped hating noisy kids in the church because you’re now constantly running after one,
…you shift to buying the smaller Happy Meals…not because you’re on a diet but just because you want a toy to come with it,
…you’ve now mastered dealing with a formula…and it’s not math,
…you wake up at 3 AM just to blog how it is like to become a father.
Happy Father’s Day to everyone!
Mood: 2/10 Honks! (Grabbed another oatmeal cookie to keep me company.)

Those were very thoughtful comments, and very appropriately shared on Father’s Day Weekend. I wish you a Happy (belated) Father’s Day as well.
Your Father’s Day Blog made me very happy. My 34 year old son Anthony (yes, you heard me right) and his wife, Fiona, are going to have their first bambino (or bambina) around August 23rd. I’m going to share your blog with him. Way to go, Cris. Keep stuff like that coming. You will touch many people’s hearts, even if they don’t post back.
You’re a good man. Your goodness shines through your blog. By the way, it’s 97ºF (36ºC) here in Oklahoma, USA. Is it warm enough for you in the Philippines?
Have a great week. Keep in touch. ~ Les

Hi there Les! FB is cool, right? Social media once again proved that it’s more of a benefit than a liability – if used the right way. I really wish your son good luck. I know he’ll be another happy dad soon.
Talking about the weather, yes 36 dec. C is already being experienced here. In fact, this recent summer must be the longest and hottest we ever had. If I’m not mistaken there were several days when we felt such temperature. And other than the heat, what makes it worse here is the humidity that made everone sweat profusely than before.
