My nighttime drive tune

My 3rd day straight of just sitting here in front of our dining table, the place I’ve conquered and marked as my study table since I started studying – again, accompanied by hundreds of mp3 selections while I try to read and browse through my Strategic Management textbook in preparation for my first class in the said subject matter. But of course, distractions other than a Twitter notification or an incoming mail have been part of it all; and so tonight, among the weird thoughts popping every now and then inside my head, I suddenly remembered searching for the song that has been part of my night drive on my way home – Young Folks.
The first time I actually heard a part of this song was in Magic 89.9′s Strike Zone program which starts around 10pm – exactly the time when my weekday classes ends. So while I drive from Rockwell back to Cavite hearing this fancy whistling tune in the background, as Josh Strike and his variety of junior jocks talk, keeps me awake while behind the wheel especially while navigating the dark, creepy and dangerous Daang Hari.
It wasn’t from @aaronatayde’s (that’s Josh Strike’s Twitter account) show however where I learned the title of this then mysterious song. One night while stuck in traffic, and with nothing much to do but fiddle with the buttons of my car’s radio, I happen to hear the familiar tune again but this time I heard vocals coming out of it. It was a complete song. And that was when the DJ from Jam 88.3 mentioned that it’s Young Folks by Peter, Bjorn and John. At last my favorite song’s got a name.
Check out the video from youtube.com (where else can one get it anyway) and see how interesting it is just as the song itself. Enjoy.

I’ve been planning to mount my video camera and turn on its infrared so I can capture and forward to ABS-CBN (@bayanmo) a night shot of the perilous Daang Hari. This road is just so dark it takes Batman-like skill to pass through it. Hopefully, any time soon I’ll figure out a way of mounting my camera for a good night shot – of course, I do pray that I’ll just get to record the unmarked road and nothing more freaky in the process.
On the other hand, I seem to have gotten used to driving in total darkness that more often than not, I intentionally think of scenes from horror movies to entertain myself while speeding through this pitch black path. Weird? But yes, I really do that often times.
