Daang Hari: an accident waiting to happen

I’m getting excited about my continuous quest for a much safer road. Just this past Friday, ABS-CBN, through its recently launched BMPM (or Bayan Mo iPatrol Mo) effort, featured a video my wife and I shot last year from Daang Hari. Being a frequent user of this road, I can’t help but wonder how insensitive (or more appropriately, stupid) its  developers can be, by not posting safety signs to aid motorists who use it 24X7. Other than cows and careless pedestrians who cross it from time to time, there’s one part of this road where one should change lane and those not familiar with it will later realize their big mistake when they’ll be staring head on at cars with blaring horns, flashing headlights and/or swearing drivers. So far, and thank God, I have yet to learn or hear an accident in this area, but nevertheless, it’s just a matter of time when a horrible accident can happen. And as a concerned citizen I will be full of guilt if I don’t do my part by at least  making others aware that such danger exists. It’s a lot better of course, if individuals directly involved in this project will soon act to correct an unthinkable oversight.

This picture is one of the materials I sent to ABS-CBN meant to guide them in case they want to do an investigation of the area. Below is the video I forwarded via twitvid using Tweetdeck.

The video is quite short but those who regularly pass by this particular road, they will surely agree that there’s not one visible sign in this area that will guide drivers to turn right at this exact spot. (Previously, a makeshift arrow was erected but it was blown away by strong wind and rain, and until now not one from the developer or engineering department cared to fix it.) But if at this point it already scares you, just imagine driving here at night when there are only two sources of illumination: your own headlight AND the headlight of the oncoming vehicle. Ti abi.

Has anyone from our government ever thought of posting contact numbers, rather than shameless faces of public officials, that will help anyone who has a complaint or suggestion for a particular project like these so called road “improvements.”

Next time I’d love to be home when my own videos are featured on TV because since my first video, the December 2009 fire and my ANC appearance, I have yet to see one being aired live or by replay.

Mood: 2/10 Honks! (I’ve got more of this similar situation and can’t wait to take videos of it.)
