There goes my Nokia 5800

I never knew that the day will come when my bum tool will just shutdown on me without warning. Yes, what I’ve known to be a worthy purchase despite being the cheapest entry level smartphone in the market is now lifeless. It happened last night while I was about to sleep and just doing my usual check if I’ve got SMS, emails or interesting Twitter updates. I was about to hit the internet icon when it started acting weird by displaying the Yahoo! Site, exits to the internet icon, then back again to the Yahoo! Site. And like some baby with a tantrum, it all of a sudden displayed System Error while in the main menu. It never acted like that before since I bought it last year. Although, it didn’t perform flawlessly, last night’s occurrence was the first…and looks like the last.

In the past 9 months (or less), it displayed irritating but tolerable errors. I’ve encountered problems like my downloaded MP3 files not playing and more disappointingly cannot be deleted which eventually led me to formatting the whole micro SD and deleting everything else in the process. And there were also several separate instances when after re-starting the phone, I discovered that all of my contacts, messages, notes and themes are all gone and that I have to re-do the tedious task of keying in whatever I’ve saved from separate backups. However annoying these errors were, I’ve soon learned how to deal with all of it. Even firmware upgrades (I did two) were all successfully done by me since I can’t afford leaving the phone behind Nokia Care center for 2 hours with them stating that they cannot guarantee success – well, that’s at least what I’ve heard from the personnel of Nokia Care center right after I acquired the phone. I now have doubts that they can even repair it this time. Anyway, I’ve got nothing to lose and hope that something good will come out later after I visit them once more.

For now, all I’ve got to be connected with the online world is this Lenovo. I neither have access to calls nor can receive text messages.. Too bad, I have a job application examination tomorrow and I’m waiting for the confirmation if I should proceed or not due to the declared holiday. Hmmm, if I don’t get the job, can I hold Nokia liable? Any interested lawyer out there?
