Twips to Save the Earth

Save the planet? Planet must be saying, “Save yourself idiots, I will be fine” – Paulo Coelho (via Twitter)

It’s Earth Day 2010 and hopefully more and more people are becoming more environmentally conscious everyday – not just because it’s Earth Day but because it’s the only Earth we got. So as my contribution to this collective effort of the human race to save this planet, here are my top 10 tips which I’ve posted on Twitter and all of which I really follow and do:
- Use your window-type air conditioner’s drip water to water nearby plants.
- Do not throw in the sink water used to sterilize baby bottles. Use them instead to water plants in your garden.
- Contrary to popular belief, using the shower conserves more water than aimless use of the ‘tabo’ or water scoop.
- It doesn’t hurt to use your ‘abaniko’ or fan when you’re alone watching TV. It’s a good exercise as well – I haven’t counted however how calories it burns.
- Brew enough coffee for your family members. Brew only when everyone is about to drink it. Pull the plug right after.
- On driving: set your car’s thermostat to appropriate temp. If driving alone, focus all air vents to yourself in order to optimize the cool temperature.
- If you usually travel with family members (especially kids), buy a small trash can to keep your litter off the road.
- Be conscious of ‘vampire‘ appliances. Unplug anything that’s not being used.
- Make it a habit to use the lowest printing quality & color possible. Like in school, you’d be surprised that professors actually don’t care if your assignment has a print way lighter than your seatmate – it’s actually not the color that counts but it’s the substance of the write up. It’s even better if you can encourage your teachers or professors to accept softcopies instead of print outs.
- Have your power-hungry light bulbs replaced for free. Avail of our government’s free CFL initiative.

Did you know that voting a TRAPO is not earth-friendly? Vote wisely – for our government, for our environment.
