Marcus Can Blog

If you don't like it, blame daddy. If you like it, well, that's by me – Marcus.

Cris is now Handy Manny

Four months ago, I wouldn’t be here at home on a Saturday. At some point I feel like as if I was gifted by the almighty with 8 days a week. So far I’ve been ‘trying’ to cope up with the slack by doing house maintenance jobs which I actually started doing right after the classes ended last semester – just before Holy Week. I’ve painted our fence and façade of the house with wifey (she’ll go berserk if I don’t mention it). Yesterday, I also repaired the leaky shower hose and installed a new wall fan – the old one’s been more than 10 years old and well over its depreciation age.

This morning, I once again saw myself with my tough plastic tool box inside the toilet room. I finally was able to pull out the broken ceramic soap holder after I accidentally dropped the heavy ‘panghilod’, a stone which is considered pumice but technically it is not. Had I thrown that rock years ago, this thing wouldn’t have had happened. I’m now anxiously waiting for it to dry and settle before I apply the grout around it…and all over the toilet room as the hardware store actually sold me a 2-kilo bag which is the smallest pack they have. So tomorrow or the day after Monday, I’ll probably be busier than Handy Manny.

For those lucky enough not to pass by their cable TV’s Disney channel, Handy Manny is a cartoon character with his trusty tools named like Rusty, Felipe, Turner & Stretch, all of which talk, walk and move along with him anywhere he goes to render his service. Needless to say, Handy Manny is just one of the several cartoon characters that our little boy got hooked watching. I’ve gotten used to him watching me curiously every time I open the toolbox and with his baby vocabulary will utter “nanny” which actually meant that he is referring to one of the tools in the Hispanic cartoon show. But as much as I can see Marcus wonder why those in the tool box are so stiff and lifeless compared to their cartoon counterparts, I wonder myself if what he thinks of me driving the Pat (name of the hammer) look alike into a nail’s head. Anyway, he has neither protested nor asked…so far.

Marcus will turn two this Monday and we’re doing a simple celebration for him. I’m excited to get the Spongebob cake we ordered from Goldilocks. By the way, he also calls wifey “nanny” but he can already pronounce very well “daddy.” Hahaha. At this age, he now has his own bias.

Trivia: there are states in the US that prohibits DIYers from doing home renovations like sanding and painting. This is due to concerns that old paints have lead content and the possibility of someone – like curious kids – accidentally inhaling it is high.

erratum: Goldiluck’s is now corrected as Goldilocks. (I’m bad with cooking & I rarely eat here, that’s why. hahaha. )

Mood: 2/10 Honks! (sa wakas, got to eat corn on cob!)
