Believe it or not: Free CFL by Philippine Gov’t

It was Black Saturday when I saw the light. We were in SM Dasmarinas when I got attracted to this booth while Marcus and I were waiting for wifey. Chatting with the personnel manning the booth I discovered that they’re giving away FREE, yes FREE, compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) to anyone who will bring their old (busted or not) incandescent lamps for replacement. I also learned that this is one of our government’s initiatives to address the current energy and environmental issues by encouraging the use of more energy-efficient bulbs. Nice. I’m just wondering though why I haven’t seen anynational news report about this commendable green effort. Shame.

Look for this booth in your nearest SM malls.

To avail of this free replacement, one should bring one their MERALCO bills starting from July to December 2009. One 15-watt CFL will be given for every one incandescent bulb (rated at 18 – 100 watts). Maximum bulb per person per bill is 6 CFL bulbs only.

The bulb doesn’t bear any commercial brand but the Department of Energy seal is a catch.

Needless to say, this means a free bulb cannot be sold. This promo according to the personnel will be offered until end of April only. So pull those old incandescent bulbs out of its socket and be part of those who contribute to the preservation of our environment…and our electric bill, at least.
