Pinoy, Boboto Ka Na Nga Ba?

Yahoo!!!! I finally got my “Boboto Ka Ba?” design printed on a shirt. I designed this one a few months back, first out of boredom and after I swore that this year I’ll try to make my precious vote count. And just more than two months from that personal commitment will happen with the hope that whoever I’ll pick as president will be the result of careful and rational thinking. T-shirt print was done courtesy of Bebong’s Personalize T-shirt.

The election period is getting nearer and nearer each day and competition is getting ugly. In fact, just a couple of days ago a very shallow incident sparked a word war between two female celebrities (Ruffa & Kris Aquino) that even led to involving the forerunner of the presidential race, Noynoy Aquino. I wouldn’t be surprised if there will be more brouhaha similar to this in the next days or weeks to come as May 10, 2010 draws near.

Another thing that seems to be the trend nowadays is that almost every candidate tries to show that they’re becoming the underdog one way or another. Someone told before that we Filipinos are compassionate and tend to side with the underdogs. Just take a look at boxing, although not directly related in a sense (and however brutal this sport is, the players are more civil than most of our politicians), I’ve read from a newspaper column that most people will put their bets on the underdog just for the main reason that he’s kawawa and needs support. And this trait is what I suspect what the spin doctors are trying to do exploit. If you observe closely and keenly this tactics is now all over with the intent to gather sympathy…and which will likely translate the valuable Filipino vote.
Villar is being hounded by the C5 scandal and he doesn’t do anything about it to finally put a cap on the issue. Instead, he makes it appear that there’s connivance among the majority of the house and the Arroyo government. In the latest surveys he’s had significant gain versus Noynoy. Blame the torrent of ads. Blame the Filipinos pusong mamon.
Noynoy, on the other hand is still capitalizing on the fact that he’s a product of a good family by having parents who are considered as national icons and that he’s core asset in his quest for the presidency is that he’s the only one who has explicitly sworn not to steal. But is that enough to lead and reform the government in the next 6 years? Go figure.
Gibo meanwhile seems to be reported as lacking funds (I’m sure to the surprise of most Filipinos) and his party seems to play the mind game very well. So far he’s had a time when he nearly scored a 100% gain (from 6% to 11%) in popularity. Recent news though shows that another underdog’s gimmick seem to perfectly work to his disadvantage.
Erap, according to the latest survey, has eaten a chunk of Gibo’s voters share. It seems like several people are once again buying this ex-convict’s publicity stunts. God help us.
And who will ever forget hearing the Christmas song, Silent Night, until late February. Thanks to Dick Gordon’s campaign team and we achieved the longest yuletide season in Philippine history.
Others like Bro. Eddie, Nicanor Perlas and JC De Los Reyes are doing their own thing and are probably the underdogs of the underdogs. So far, they haven’t conceded to the fact that they’re lagging significantly behind in surveys and that the most rational thing to do is quit and call it a day. Whatever drives them to continue makes me really wonder.
The clock is ticking and before we realize it, we will all be flocking to the voting precincts to cast our votes. And until then let’s all expect that a lot more strategies will be employed by these presidentiables and the ‘creative’ minds behind each one of them until the very end of the campaign period in order to win (and pay for their exorbitant ads?). It’s during these times that every Filipino voter has to increase awareness of what is really going on and not lose our focus on the bottomline of this presidential rat race – our country’s future, especially for the next 6 years to come. So again. Remember, make or break. Make or break. So pinoy, boboto ka na nga ba? Kung oo, aba’y galingan mo.

Yes, go vote for him if you really believe that he is the one. Don’t get persuaded by other people (esp. friends) who might be only voting someone just because he is ‘sikat. Thanks for dropping by.
