I Want a Dream Machine

I woke up this morning coming from a nightmarish dream. However scary it was, I was awed by the fusion of vivid elements that were in that dream – reckless flying red cruise ship, shiny green ocean, giant green stingy insects, red cottages and an ilonggo-speaking old man who appeared out of nowhere telling me that the path I’m taking will actually lead me to our home in Bacolod. If it isn’t weird, I wonder what is. Anyway, I’m so fascinated by it, that I’m now wondering if the day will come when a machine to record dreams will come to reality.

Just imagine the benefits of having one. You hook it to your head (at least just how most sci-fi contraptions appear in the movies) before you sleep, and in the morning you just push a button to replay what went through your head while in REM. Presto instant entertainment…or embarrassment. Of course, you play discreetly and record only “those” dreams that you want others to see. Hehehe. Shhhh. Also think about this, assuming one is 30 years of age and if each year of his life has had at least 100 interesting dreams per year. With the dream machine, that’s 30 years multiplied by 100 dreams per year recorded and would be equal to 3000 dreams he can play anytime. Man, Hollywood would become obsolete.

There’s a fantasy movie coming this March 4 in the Philippines, Alice in Wonderland with Johnny Depp as one of the stars. If my memory serves me right, majority of the Depp movies I’ve seen and liked, strangely as it may seem, are dream-like movies. Needless to say, I hope to watch this one.

Another interesting link I stored in my favorites list is this site about “13 Interesting Facts About Dreams.” Check it out and I’m sure you’ll love it just as I did.
